Standardised Nomenclature
NCAHP is transitioning the professional title to Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) for global and national standardisation.
Mandatory Registration
Under NCAHP Act 2021, graduates of both B.Voc and B.Sc MLT must register with the State or Central Register to practice professionally.
Draft Curriculum 2026
NCAHP has released a draft curriculum for Medical Laboratory Sciences to ensure uniform standards across all institutions from 2026–27.
Career Eligibility
Both degrees qualify you as a Medical Laboratory Technologist, Lab Supervisor, or Quality Control Technician in hospitals and diagnostic centres.
The UGC has explicitly stated in official notifications that B.Voc degrees are to be considered equivalent to other bachelor’s degrees for competitive exams (UPSC, SSC, etc.) wherever a “Bachelor Degree in any discipline” is the eligibility requirement. Both degrees are valid for healthcare roles provided the curriculum meets NCAHP competency standards.
